Souvenir merchants on the BeachWe decided to reserve one day for just laying on the beach chairs on the beach. They have the souvenir merchants on every tourist beach around the world. At Playa Dorada they where not so very aggressive. They turned away if You just shook your head. Surely nobody had teached them that Scandinavians do not like to be pressured for a deal. If they want to sell something they should only approach when asked. We taught the wooden sculptures they where selling were not to our taste. It would have been good for health reasons to eat salty potato chips when you sweat on the sun, but it was forbidden to sell them on the beach because they did not want any chip backs littering the sand. Of course a token fee of 2 dollars for the chip bag would solved the littering problem, because everyone would kindly returned the empty bag to get the 2 dollars refunded. Maybe some local kid would have earned a good salary by eagerly cleaning the beach from all empty chip bags. Another hit item on the beach would have been a “Do Not Disturb”-flag to keep the souvenir merchants away – but we guess they have to make their living also somehow and it is no easy job to carry all merchandise on the hot sun scorched beach. ![]() |
